It was the first to achieve any great fame.

It is the Zeus of the video game world,

Nintendo is nothing more than Mercury the herald.

But we mustn't forget Pong, the video game Chronos,

It was the first, but was no-frills, no bonus.

Atari crowned itself and forever it shall reign,

No matter how much it puts thumbs in pain.

Its underlings are Sega & Nintendo,

And the CD-Rom 3D-O.

They are nothing but hi-tech gimmicks,

But Atari is to great poetry as these are to dirty limericks.

It was Atari and Activision that inspired them all,

One quarter of all new games are derivatives of Pit Fall.

In 1980 Atari was the Great Innovator,

All after that must settle for a mere renovator.

It was in 1980, way back then,

That western culture was introduced to a new form of Zen.

So in the end, it is our friend,

Atari that we must praise,

The most worthy of a blank electron-induced gaze.
