Grandpa Loves Music

They told me I didn't have to write a music thing this month because it's totally already covered. That's cool, I said, but since we've re-named the Department, I might as well drop something for you all to think about for a month. Also, I got me some new records, and while I am not going to review them this month, I'm going to brag a bit.

Different Class Pulp
I missed the "Brit Pop" rigmarole back in the 90's. I was in college, but I did not listen to the radio, and I certainly never read any music magazines. I certainly missed a bunch of good to decent music. Bigfoot grabbed this Pulp joint for me the other day (I gave her a long list of CD's I want, and she checks Princeton Records every once and a while.) I liked it, but the whole "Brit-Pop" idea got me to thinking….was Oasis the UK's Nirvana? I'm inclined to think so. It's got to be true. Or, was Nirvana the USA's Joy Division? And, if that is true, does that make the Foo Fighters the USA's New Order?

Chat and Business Ikara Colt
This is one of my "John Peel told me to buy it" records. I am five songs into my first listen. It's pretty good. Kind of a Franz Ferdinand feel, which actually may mean that FF has a Ikara Colt feel to them. Could be a 8 or 9 out of ten from me.

Franz Ferdinand Franz Ferdinand
Yeah, I reviewed this one a month or two ago, but it still rocks.

NOTE: I am gonna try to see these guys in Philly on June 19th. There will be a review of that!

Life is Full of Possibilities Dntel
Yet another Bigfoot catch. We listened to it last night once, and it's only a 6.5 right now. Some of the songs were pretty good, but I was not paying real close attention because I was eating baked beans. Some kinds of multi-tasking is wicked hard, you know.

Underachievers Please Try Harder Camera Obscura
This one got a good review from me back when I reviewed FF. This album gets better and better.

Song for My Father (Cantiga Para Meu Pai) The Horace Silver Quintet
As a Steely Dan fan, I suppose it's a shame it took me so long to buy this, but it's also a shame because it's such a pretty album. It's been in my headphones to and from work five times now, and I've enjoyed it every time. I should, to be fair, sit down and give it a patient and still listen. This is most certainly a "Kickin' Back" record.
